The term, "Social Worker" is in most states a legal term, so, in order to call yourself a Social Worker, you must acquire a license. 1. Find a Social Work program that is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). 2. You can get a Masters in Social Work in 2 years, after you have acquired any Bachelor degree, or you can get a Bachelors in Social Work, after which you can acquire your Masters in 1 additional year, sometimes 2, depending if the state allows "Advance Standing. 3. After you acquire your Masters, you have to work for 3000 hours under the direct supervision of a LCSW. In some cases, you may be able to be supervised by a Licensed Psychologist. 4. After your supervisor has signed off on your 3000 hours (you can have multiple supervisors), then you apply with your state to take the licensing exam or certification exam. 5. After you pass the exam, then you can call yourself a Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

First you have to have an educational plan. Graduate from high school or GED and then there are programs in colleges and universities that offer degrees for social work. This involves taking psychology and sociology courses. Minoring or majoring in one or the other. One can work toward an associates degree and obtain the minimal amount of education needed to perform parts of the job of being a social worker however, the more education you have the more money you get paid and the better job you will get. The associate degree helps get your foot in the door to decide what kind of social worker you want to become. Work with children adoptions, mental health, child protective services, or with the elderly, etc. The pay is not great no matter what the capacity of your job, long hours of travel, courts, paperwork and alot of red tape. Pay is anywhere from 23,000 to 55,000 unless you work your way up to a higher position in administration I am afraid this career has a limited monetary purse. If you like the work and are a person who wants to see justice and help people then this may be the job for you just remember this career also has a high turnover for burnout so have an alternative career and education in case you decide you've had enough of helping others and want to help yourself!!
