Check your discharge papers. You should have been issued a DD214 upon discharge. It will list all of your awards as well as your unit history and dates of service. You can contact the appropriate service if you cannot locate yours.
If the medal is documented in your DD214, you may be entitled to wear it. You will have to consult the specific regulations. Most medals can be worn, but after the Marine medals.
Subsequent awards.
You can contact the Navy Department and request a copy of your service record, which will list all of your awards and medals. There are numerous places on line that will provide medals and ribbons and mount them in shadow boxes.
Military awards will be listed on your discharge (DD-214). There is a special block titled: Awards and Decorations. The awards should all be listed there.

There is no law that governs this. By custom the medals/awards/burial flag of the deceased service member is given to (a) their spouse (unless divorced), if there is no spouse, (b) their eldest child, or (if not married and no children), (c) their parents or (d) their closest living relative.

No, and the answer is simple. We haven't used patches since about WW2. However if your question is in regards to personal awards such as Medals or Service Robin's the answer in most instances is Yes. If you enlist in any of the branches as a prior service member, i.e. someone who served in a different branch prior to enlisting in the current one, you are allowed to wear any awards earned during service with the prior.
