Amoeba is holozoic and food consists of other small protozoans, bacteria, diatoms. It ingests its food by the process of phagocytosis if food is solid and pinocytosis if food is a liquid and this process is assisted by pseudopodia .. The feeding mechanism may be in three steps:
Import:after detecting food particle cilia and flagella assist in bringing the food near to body.when food particle comes in contact with membrane, an invagination is produced , food particle goes in this invaginated membrane and results in formation of a food vacuole after detaching from the membrane into cytoplasm.
the food particle fuses with a lysosome filled with enzymes , and digestion starts there at. the digested nutrients are then dispersed into cytoplasm. The nutrients in the cytoplasm are dispersed throughout the cytoplasm by cytoplasmic streming movements like , circulation and rotation and hence used for different purposes.
circumfluence: ingestion of less active food. Eg, bacteria
circumvallation: ingestion of active food..Flagellates
**Digestion is intracellur, and cannot digest fat ( no amylase present in all protozoan)
It forms pseudopodia to obtain its food.
Ameoba moves with the help of psedupodia.
