The AFL-CIO is a federation of different unions in the US. Member unions include factory worker unions and government employee unions.
the worker sticks it up their bosses back hole......!
Life for a factory worker in the 1700's was hard. Working conditions were not safe and bosses ruled with an iron hand. Wages were low unless you were highly skilled. A person able to help in the production of firearms probably made more money then a worker in the textile industry. There were no unions. No sick pay or accident insurance. Basically factories were not regulated at all by either local, state or national governments.
The most prominent movement was decreasing importance for unions throughout the country. Companies sought to diminish worker interest in joining or establishing unions by implementing deceptive and threatening tactics. Contracts were also enforced that prevented workers from becoming a part of any organized labor organization.

Blacklisting would have occurred if a group of employees were denied employment opportunities within an industry due to their participation in a labor strike or union-related activities. It could also be considered blacklisting if an individual was purposely excluded from future job opportunities without just cause.
Worker's (labor's) unions are to protect the employees from abuse by their employers. As an example, say you are a worker and your employer pays you very little and your working conditions are dirty, dusty, and mildewy. You are also part of a worker's union. The worker's union you participate in can help your wages rise and your working conditions to improve. Unions are like safety nets, they may help individuals and groups have better conditions.Plumbing and carpentry:improve wagesimprove working conditionsprotect workers with insurancepay for medicalinsure fair contracts
The original unions were formed because of the extremely harsh work conditions in America at the time. These Unions stood for more worker rights, child labor laws, and minimum wage.
This didn't help the worker boss relations the bosses just fired the workers and hired new ones.
Labor unions generally favor the worker. They are also in favor of raising the minimum wage and restricting imports that come into the country.
