Bumble bees adapt to their environments in many different ways. Some bumblebee species have longer tongues so they are able to pollinate the deeper flowers in their environment. The fuzzy covering on bumblebees is an adaption to help them stay active in cool weather.

Pollinator, predator, and prey are ways in which a honeybee fits in its environment. The insect in question (Apis spp) functions as the bearer of pollen in cross-fertilizing edible and ornamental plants which otherwise will not seed, the consumer of a non-wind pollinated herbaceous plant's nectar, and the prey of animals (including humans) and pathogens. One of its most important interactions therefore is that of middle-person between built and natural, urban and wild ecological niches.
