Well, I would start by asking...you mean the gearbox in the transmission....manual or automatic (and which specific transmission is in which 500 sl (it was made several entirely different years)....or maybe your thinking about the gearbox of the transaxle, with the same question about which one you actually may have?
But I would end by saying, if you have to ask a question like that on a forum like this, it is not something you should attempt in any case!
