How do you remove hardtop 98 sl500?

On the right side of the center console, near the shifter, you'll see a red, square button. That will undo the locking mechanisms allowing you, and another person, to lift the top up and back. Don't forget to unplug the electrical connection on the driver's door jamb (rear window defogger). When you want to have the soft top, hit the same button....in under 15 seconds, the top will secure itself in the up position.

How do you take off the hard top on a 1973 450 Mercedes?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are four locks for the removable hardtop. Two are located above each sun visor between the roof and the frame around the windshield. The other two are located on each side in the rear area near the front of each rear side glass. There is a special wrench that is used to turn these locks. Put the wrench into the slot and turn them counterclockwise about 1/4 of a turn. When all four are unlocked, the top lifts off -- best done by two people.

A screw driver can be used if you do not have the wrench. When putting the roof back on, turn the locks clockwise, making sure that the roof is securely fastened.

Where is the hydraulic pump on a 1995 Mercedes 500 sl that controls the convertible top?

take out the spare tire from the trunk.

you'll see a black raised cover...there are 3 10mm nuts holding it down...they are easy to take off

remove the black cover.

you'll be looking at the hydraulic pump and resorvoir.

I don't know why you need to access this pump.

On the center console, the covertible top switch...that big red one...does it flash or stay lit? Has the pump stopped responding? There's an automatic shut off that protects the pump from burning out. Are you leaking fluid from the system? If you have oil seeping down from around the visors, you will need to replace both of the servor units. There is also another hydraulic system for the rear part of the top's system, which is behind the boot section.

Also...the system's computer will need to be reset (clear the codes) at a dealer after you replace whatever is needed.

You can also access the top manually....there's a roof tool that you should have...check your owner's manual on how to perform this.

BTW....the dealer charges nearly $300.00 for each of those hydraulic servos....there is a guy in Missouri that rebuilds them for around $100.00 for 2.

Hi where is the central locking pump located for a 1989 Mercedes sl 450?

First of all, there's no such thing as a 1989 450sl...they stopped making 450sl's in 1980...then they went to the 380sl for a few years, then finally the 560sl to finish up the 107 body style run.

Secondly, if we are talking about a 1979 450sl, there is no central locking pump. The entire central locking system uses the engine's vacuum. There is a storage ballast underneath the front right fender....it reminds me of 9 black balls stuck together with a single vacuum line coming out of it.

The doors, trunk and gas flap are all controlled by the central locking system. Each has and needs its own vacuum diaphragms...that are powered by the vacuum lines. If your central locking system isn't working, get a vacuum gun and test each diaphragm to see if they're working properly. There is also a small vacuum valve in the left door that might also need replacing...you should also check all the pertinent vacuum lines and rubber connections for leaks. One leak will screw up the entire system.

Also, if you do have a 79 SL, you also have the worse climate control system ever made...this system also depends on a vacuum supply to function. That is a highly complex system that your mechanic should work on, not an amateur

Have a 1996 ski-doo formula sl 500 it will cough then lose power for a while then it will run ok?

Coughing through the carbs is a sign that there is not enough fuel at that time for the engine. 2 cycle engines can burn a piston if fuel is not enough adequate. I would recommend cleaning the carbs. If you need more help contact me through my board and I will try to help.

How do you operate the climate control panel on a 1976 Mercedes 450 SL?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

On the 1976 models, you have two sets of slide controls and two knobs....its not really a climate control type of system since there isn't a rheostat to maintain a selected temperature. Its been a while, but I think all 4 slides in the up position is for defrost. The two slides with red markings are for the heater, and the two white ones are for fresh air and I believe also control the vents for the A/C. When you have all the slides in the white section, turn the blue knob on the dash to activate the A/C If your car has a central, push button control panel that says 'Climate Control', I don''t think you have a 1976 car. That system came out in 1978 I think, or late 1977. That system was nightmare to service.

What is the Part number for a 2006 SL55 Keyless Go key?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Keys are a dealer only item for later MB's....you need to bring ID and proof of car ownership when you go to the dealer. You should call your local MB dealer to get the actual part number for the item you want. Have you VIN handy because they'll probably ask you for it. MB dealers will give you that information...why you would need is a mystery to me. These keys are laser cut keys, and the remote units are very expensive to replace. Basically...to replace these keys, you need to give the dealer the VIN and they can order a key for you.

How do you remove the top of a sl500?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

first of all, I don't know what year car you have....

If you have a newer SL...less than 6 years old, you don't remove the top,,,its a hard top

only that stores in the boot,..you shouldn't have a canvas top..

If you have an earlier SL...there's a button, on the center console...push this button down and hold it for a few seconds...it will unlockl the hard top from the chassis. You will need 2 people to do this. One person on each side of the car. Lift up and walk the roof back, towards the rear of the car. After laying the top on the ground, you can go back to that center console button....Depress the button again...it will take over...and a canvas top will appear, and unfold itself into place.

You should also know that your local MB dealer has facilities to store your top (I would assume for a minimal charge) and will take the top off for you. Its a very common practice for SL owners to do. This is great especially if you don't have anywhere to store your top. or don't have a strong friend to help you.

Once again.....as I have always recommended...go to MB and get an owner's manual for your car. There's a lot to know about these cars...and there's probably some features on the car that you might not be aware of. It's something you really should have. These manuals are not that expensive, and they're worth whatever it costs.
