you get another person to do it
Separate the hair that you want to backcomb and tie the rest out of the way. Take a section of the hair nearest the front of your head and hold it up high and straight. Put a bit of tension on it. Put a comb in half way up the length and pull the comb through your hair back down to your head. Let the hair fall forward out of your way and continue taking sections until you have it done. Then just push it back and style it however you want to.

If your hair is thin and you want some volume, you can use volumizing shampoo and conditioner. After that you can also tease/backcomb your hair for lift and spray a little bit of hair spray on it so it stays in place. You can also also use volumizing mousse and other products that thickens your hair and add volume and bounce at the same time.
If you're talking about backcombing it to make it poofy or high, you just grab a hunk of hair and put a comb at the base of it and comb the hair up and down without taking the comb out of it. This builds up a rats nest of hair to add height and volume. Then spray the crap out of it. Big Sexu Hair makes an awesome product called BackComb in a Bottle. Hope this helps?
