I'm not familiar with your 2004, but I drive "89, and '93 F-150s.
My headlight bulbs are inserted into a lamp-holder that mounts into the back of the headlamp assemblies via a 1/4 turn locking "tab" method.
To remove the lamp-holder I just turn it one quarter turn counterclockwise, and pull it toward the rear of the vehicle. It is not even necessary to remove the wiring harness/connector from the lampholder.
