Best Answer

Like a zipper a DNA molecule has two "spines" and jutting out "teeth" that lock together to join the spines.

When DNA replicates, it "unzips".

The initial step in the replication of DNA is the lengthwise separation of the helical strand into two separate parts. It's not a leap to see DNA separating down the middle much as a zipper opens down the middle when it is unzipped.

How can you compare DNA to a zipper?

During the processes of DNA replication and transcription, the two strands of the DNA molecule separate, or "unzip", so that the two strands can be copied by DNA nucleotides, or the anti-sense strand of DNA can be transcribed by mRNA.

What is DNA-replication?

DNA replication is a process during which DNA double helix opens like a zipper , new nucleotides are added along both strands of DNA by enzyme DNA polmerase and at last two molecules of DNA are formed. It takes place in S phase of interphase .

What kind of molecules are transcripts?

DNA Molecules

What is the main difference between DNA helicases and DNA molecules?

DNA helicases are proteins, while DNA molecules are nucleotides.

How does DNA molecules differ from daughter DNA molecules?

Daughter moloqules are newer than DNA moloqules

Why is the structure of a DNA molecule often is described as a zipper?

because the shape is a double helix. so it looks like a zipper and connects to each other.

Why is the structure of a DNA molecule described as a twisted zipper?

because the shape is a double helix. so it looks like a zipper and connects to each other.

DNA replications begins in areas of DNA molecules called what?

DNA replication begins in areas of DNA molecules are called origins of replication.

What makes of the sides of the ladder of a DNA molecule?

The sides of the DNA ladder are alternating deoxyribose (sugar) molecules and phosphate molecules. The DNA bases attach to the sugar molecules.

What molecules are found in chromosomes?

DNA molecules.
