I also would like to know how this is done. I have a 1998 jimmy and a 1998 envoy and the envoy is fine and works normal. The jimmy on the other hand has that ever so annoying auto lock feature engaged so that it will lock you out automatically if you start it and shut the drivers door too fast. Add to that the huge inconvenience of having to push the unlock button any time passengers are getting in, and if any one of them lifts the door handle too soon, then you have to push it again. This is fine security for a dangerous city or something, but I live in a town where you leave your vehicle unlocked all the time and often with the keys in it and running. Heck, even the houses are often left unlocked even when not home. I used to own a 1997 Grand Prix GTP that I was able to program, but this jimmy has me stumped. I have successfully programmed a new key Fob, but this other issue is beyond me.
i dont believe you can do that, unless you take out the fuse that makes the lights come on automatically
Disengage - album - was created in 1998.
Cash for clunkers kind sir.
It should be automatic once in gear it should disengage, if not follow the pedal assembly up there you will find a small lever that if you flip it it will disengage it, watch yourself cause the pedal will just pop up.
I have a 1998 Jimmy SLT, automatic with floor shifter. It is easier than you might think. If you look closely on the back of the shifter knob there is a retaining pin, looks like a large brad type nail, just pry it out and lift up.
Just keep the car in Neutral it will not hurt it to be towed...
How do I disengage my security system for a 1998 town and country with out a key

The 1998, 1999 and 2000 4X4 Ford Ranger with the failure prone PVH/Pulse Vacuum Hubs can be easily converted to a true manual locking hub by installing the Rugged Ridge 15001.70 lockouts found here: http://store.4wheelingplus.com/proddetail.asp?prod=15001.70
Manual chokes stopped being used long before 1998. Chevrolet started using fuel injection on their trucks in the mid-80s. Manual chokes would've died out with carburetors.
where is the oil pump on a 1998 gmc jimmy in the oil pan.
How do you replace a transmission modular automatic on a 1998 tahoe
