Storyboard images are usually sketches that simply and clearly communicate the setups, or main elements of each shot and the spatial relationships between each element. In filmmaking, this cuts down setup time and questions from crew members. An area for text, called captions, can hold futher information about the shot including location and dialog and even the script.

While storyboard can be drawn by hand, computer software like StoryBoard Quick makes it much faster to create shots and try out different ideas. 3D software can also be used for storyboarding but 3D software is very time consuming.

Frameworks Artists has some nice storyboard samples and links to the finished project on its Facebook page. There are nice comparisons of before and after, concept to completion. https://www.facebook.com/FrameworksArtists

Why draw storyboard panels in three point perspective?

Certain panels need storyboard three-point perspective in order to accurately depict what the shot will look like on the screen. A shot of New York city taken from a helicopter won't look right unless the drawing employs three-point perspective, for example. That's the job of the storyboard, to give an accurate depiction of what to shoot and how it'll look.
