In a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer : ( 4R70W )
I am pretty sure that it is non existent, i have a 99 mountaineer and it is AWD and i am going to assume that yours has either FWD or AWD which means it has a transmission and a transfer case not a transaxle
I am getting a combined hwy/city average of 14mpg
On a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer : Open the drivers door and on the end of the door ( or the latch pillar ) you will see an information sticker that shows the original size tires on the vehicle from the factory
On a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer : The 4.6 liter V8 engine uses ( 2 timing CHAINS / 1 CHAIN to each cylinder head )
On a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer : All Wheel Drive ( AWD ) has engine power going to all 4 wheels , all the time , and doesn't require any driver input
It will usually tell you on the transmission's dip stick handle but I also have a98 Mountaineer AWD V-8 and it uses Mercon V
5 quarts ( 4.7 liters ) with engine oil filter change
I had the same problem with my 99 AWD mountaineer. I was told the front differential was bad.
Disc brakes ( with small brake shoes in the back of the rotors for your parking / emergency brake )
According to the 1998 Mercury Mountaineer Owner Guide : The 5.0 , V8 is rated at ( 215 horsepower at 4200 RPM and 288 lb.ft. torque at 3300 RPM )
No,a transmission on a 2005 mercury mountaineer will not fit on a 2000 mercury mountaineer unless you change the oil message on the mountaineer.
