First, you need to have an invention of your own. Then you need to speak to a patent attorney and determine if the invention can be patented and in which countries. Then the patent attorney (or patent agent) will draft an application and file it in one or more patent offices. In a couple of years you will receive a rejection and the patent attorney will assist you to determine if the rejection can be refuted by arguments, amendments, affidavits, or other techniques.
