If you want to get Anorexic just don't try to get it really bad. What I did to lose weight quick was not to eat Breakfast or Lunch. If you go to school and if you have packed lunch, only drink your drink and throw the rest away. If you buy food from the cantein, only buy a drink. Have dinner but only a very small amount, about half of your usuall meal size. By the end of doing this for 2 weeks, I lost 1 1/2 Stone! Yes I did have anorexia and yes I did need treatment. But that is the risk your about take... Do not starve yourself, do extra exercise or make yourself sick. This can lead to a very serious case of Anorexia and have a high risk of you dying.
The first diagnosed case of anorexia occurred in the late 1800s in England.
Not in and of itself, but personality or other mental problems can add in to case eating disroders like anorexia.
Anorexia has only been a diagnosed disorder since the late 1800s, but written descriptions of people who might have suffered from anorexia date back to ancient times. Priest reports state that Catherine of Sienna existed on a diet of next-to-nothing, consiting of only small amounts of fruits and berries. Ancient Romans practiced habits of starvation and purging after meals, signs of the eating disorders of anorexia and bulimia.
Roughly 2/3 of all cases of anorexia occur in "Western" Society. That is, the Americas and Western Europe, mostly.
Yes. The youngest officially diagnosed case of anorexia was an 8 year old girl from the UK. Anorexia can strike at any age, though it is most commonly seen in teens and young adults.
No, anyone can be anorexic.
Your sister may be anxious, or depressed or worst case scenario, may be suffering from Anorexia Nervosa. See her GP urgently.
Anorexia can be diagnosed by a doctor or a mental health professional after a physical and mental evaluation.
No, definitely not.
Anorexia was first diagnosed and published as a disease in the 1800's. Anorexia is mostly found in female teenagers, that do very well in school, and in life, in fact Anorexia affects a lot of people that you would never guess have a problem. Female teenagers aren't the only victims of Anorexia though, Anorexia can affect anyone, Male or Female, teens to adults.
Although males comprise only about 1/10 of all people with anorexia, when they do have anorexia they are affected as severely as are women with the same illness. Males are affected by anorexia in the same way as women are: for example, they can have organ failure, extreme emaciation, and even death. However, males with anorexia may not be taken as seriously as women because anorexia is often viewed as a women's disease.
Anorexia was first recorded as an actual disorder in 1873 by two English doctors. However, writings from monasteries dating as far back as ancient Greeks reveal reports of self-starvation and throwing up after meals. Priests wrote that Catherine of Sienna died due to only eating small meals and refusing to eat at most meals, which is now a sign of severe anorexia.
