Another View: MAYBE - in SOME places it is that easy to get out of jury duty, but where I have served you had better have a signed note or diagnosis from your doctor or attending physician (if you're the caretaker) - VERY little will excuse you from jury duty and each individual excuse/reason was evaluated on an individual basis.

∙ 13y agoOn the back of your notice to appear for jury duty it explains the ways you can be excused. These include medical necessity (needs doctor's note), financial hardship, childcare hardship among others. Also on the back side of the notice is a phone number you can call for more information.
If you cannot obtain a release ahead of time then you must appear and sign in on the day listed in the summons. If you fail to appear there will be serious repercussions. If you get called to sit on a panel you must answer the questions truthfully.

∙ 13y agoJury duty is just that, your duty as a citizen. You may be excused if you fall within certain parameters, such as being a full time student or disabled. Only the judge can excuse you from jury duty. A police officer, attorney, or clerk does not have the power to do so. If you ignore your summons, you may be arrested or fined.

∙ 9y agoMany simply don't respond to the notice and although there is no guarantee, truthfully in many places i have lived, there is no consequence since they can't prove you ever received it if you don't respond and they don't have the resources to go after everybody that doesn't. I have friends that have served or who did respond and now they bug them all the time. If you do show for selection all you have to do is indicate bias towards defendant and you will be dismissed.
