You can't. No one should ever hope to get his sound because he was the best. We lost his sound along with the helicopter. It resides only in our hearts and on tape.

The first answer is pretty true. Don't underestimate how much tone and feel is generated from a players' hands. That said - Get yourself a Fender Strat and a Fender Tweed Amp. Lots of gain, mids, and bass. I believe he used an Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal for a touch of fuzz for the solos. Practice lots. The man could say more with one note than most shreddars do with 10.

Lastly, if you could ask Stevie himself - he would tell you to go practive Albert King, Buddy Guy, and Albert Collins licks over and over.
