One of the first things you want to do is go through the "Wiki Choice Wizard" at WikiMatrix and narrow down your options.
One of the questions it asks is "Software or hosted?".
That refers to the 2 very different ways to set up your own wiki:
The easy way is to start a new wiki at a wiki farm. The nice people at the wiki farm will take care of the physical computer, the OS, and most of the technical stuff for you.
The more difficult way is to set up a web server and install some kind of wiki engine software.
The particular wiki farm or wiki engine will have some very specific information on their particulars.
There are also some general tips that apply to practically every wiki at Meatball, CommunityWiki, and the "Starting and Running a Wiki Website" Wikibook.
First, you'll need to be notable. You can see the standards for notability at http://enwp.org/WP:N. Then, someone (other than you) will need to create the page.
After you've created a user account, you can click the "Start a wiki" button in the toolbar at the top, right next to the Wikia logo.
Click the Start a wiki button on the top of any Wikia page (in the toolbar, next to the Wikia logo). Then, fill out the name, URL, and a few other things and your wiki will be set up.For more help on starting a wiki, see the help page: help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Start_a_new_wiki
Wikia is owned and operated by Wikia, Inc. So, since they're both Wikia, I guess you could say that.
If a wiki has a page called Template:GummyBears, then on another page you can "transclude" it with {{GummyBears}}.
You can contact them through this page: glee.wikia
Click the Start a wiki button on the top of any Wikia page (in the toolbar, next to the Wikia logo). Lucky for you, Star Wars has it's own Wikia page. Here is the link for the official site. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Just copy and paste it in your browser.
When your at the main site and your not logged in,you will find 'create a page'
If the main page is unprotected for your user group, you should just be able to edit it like any other page.
In the toolbar at the top of the page, hover over your username/avatar and click Log out at the bottom of the menu.
