Someone either has a hive nearby (go looking) or you have some nice fragrant flowers near your pool. I live in Canada, and we've noticed not only many more bees, but also wasps. Wear light clothing (don't wear colorful clothing) and get rid of any sweet smelling flowering bushes, flowers in pots and snoop around the area to see if there is someone raising bees. Some people will raise bees and then abandon the beehives. The bees don't know the difference! I am sure you know the difference between bees (yellow/black striped, most of the time), but be sure they aren't wasps. Wasps will build large nests in trees, bushes, off the side of your house or any building in the area. Take a good look around all buildings on your property and if you find one get an exterminator in. If all else fails it's time to figure out a way to build a large open cabana with bug netting around your pool. That will keep the little flying devils away from you. Good luck Marcy

Are they really bees, or are they wasps? I ask because a lot of people don't make the distinction, despite the fact that they are very different animals. If it's really wasps, getting rid of their nests is the best approach. They probably are living under the eaves of your house, or maybe neighboring houses. There are special was sprays that have long-distance nozzles, so you can knock them out from a distance. I'll assume that you're talking about honeybees. What are they doing there? Are they coming after the only source of water in the area, or eating the sugar out of soft drink cans, or collecting nectar from flowering plants. If they are after the only nearby source of water, you probably can't get rid of them. If they are digging through the trash, get rid of the trash. If it's flowering plants they're after, you have to decide whether you want the plants and the bees, or neither. My gut reaction is learn to live with them unless someone has a serious allergy. (In which case, get a professional who can examine the details of the situation. Then it's too important to leave to chance.) Bees scare a lot of people, but they are rarely aggressive. They have more important business to attend to than messing with you.

DO ALL OF THESE STARTING with #1, then 2, these 2 most importantly, do them all if you need to really ensure your bases(hot tub repellents) are "covered"

1. drain and change the water (beekeeper blog noted they prefer it when the water is old),also

2. provide an alternate non deep water source nearby (a large pan or any container without deep sides will do) so they will sip elsewhere .

3.Also plug up the middle of the cover where it folds. I use a balled up sock on each side, wrapped in a bounce dryer sheet. It never falls out when the cover is half opened as I usually only fold the cover back to get in. You can spray the balled socks with something more potent if desired (bee sprays) or repellent smellers like citronella.

4. other option cover the middle fold with these same repellent smeller coated rags

5. same repellent smeller under the rim of the outside cover.

The simple answer is you can't if your pool is outdoors. If you could move your pool indoors, put up a screened area around and over the pool or move it to a location where there are no bees you would likely be successful but I know those are not real options. Bees are pretty stupid creatures and are only responding to instincts when they fly around so it's hard to say exactly why they decide to have a swim in your pool. With that in mind the only thing you can do is keep your chemicals in proper balance, use your skimmer net frequently and if you can, move any plants or other things that might attract bees near your pool. There are numerous products on the market that will more or less automatically skim the pool surface, yo may consider investing in one of them.

How do get rid of honey bees in my eaves?

If you have a beekeeper in the area, they will come and remove the bees for you. If you can't get in touch with a beekeeper, an exterminator can come out and remove the bees. Honey bees are important to the environment, and shouldn't be killed unless it is a last resort.

Is it necessary to get rid of a bee's nest if you can patch up the entrance after you rid the bees from the walls or can the honey still attract bees thourgh some other opening?

You should get rid of the nest because wasps will be atracted to the honey and if there are wasps they probably won't sting you as they are stealing and remove the nest at night as that is when wasps bees and other insects go back to their hives, but be careful.
