Calculating your carbon footprint is done by examining your lifestyle (the home you live in, the car you drive, etc.) and assigning a value to the amount of carbon dioxide each of these activites create. Some are not immediately apparent (like the amount of methane produced by the cows you require to be raised for your steaks and burgers) but othrs (like using a big SUV as opposed to a hybrid) are intuitive.
