If you are worried about being either one, it is actually not very likely that you are, since both disorders involve a lack of empathy and selfishness, where you might not care whether you were one or not. However, the best idea is to see a Psychologist and talk about your fears... they will have diagnostic tests that can help you to discover your weaknesses and hopefully help you work to improve them.

Here are general descriptions to help, but they are not a substitute for professional help:

  • Psychopathy is usually characterized by antisocial behavior, diminished empathy, lack of or diminished remorse, and a lack of inhibitions. Extreme psychopaths sometimes hear voices or have hallucinations.
  • Narcissism is usually characterized by manipulation, selfishness, and vanity. Narcissists usually think they are better than everyone else. They aren't usually anti-social, but a narcissist would generally only want to hang out with people that he or she could control.
