How do you live up to your dream to become a famous singer at 13 or 14?

Here's how you do what you really want to do: Let go of this dream immediately. You are setting yourself up for disaster. This is what I mean. You find yourself the day before your 15th birthday and you are not yet famous (how to deal with the pain!). What do you do? You've failed to reach your 'dream' so you settle for something else.

Give up your dream completely, and concentrate on being the best singer you can be. Think smart and make contacts. Write a song, or have a friend write a song, and then make a good quality demo. Don't say you can't; if you are into music you must have friends who have decent home studio software, or maybe you could get people to sponsor you to get some studio time to record the demo. [But for heaven's sake, don't tie up studio time and then decide in the studio that it might be time to practice something. Go in ready to start recording.] Send the demo out to performers (marketing the song, really) and/or publishers. Send it out to radio stations. Send it to colleges and universities with music programs. Contact local musicians who do gigs nearby, and maybe you can get a spot in one of their gigs to highlight your song. While you're at it, send the demo to television programs that might be interested. You might get a spot; Stranger Things have happened.

Your dream isn't bad, and you may even reach it. The thing is to focus it a bit, and get ready for some long-term work and dedication. There are probably ten million or more kids of your age who are also convinced that they should be famous. You be the one who makes it because you decided to work smart and not just think big. There are worse fates in life than to have to wait a few years before becoming famous.
