The easiest way to make a multiplication sign using a computer keyboard is to just use a lowercase x. You can also use the asterisk symbol that is above the number 8 on your keyboard.
It is the * sign (or you hold shift and press 8). How I found it was testing 3 times three and there was a * sign and so I knew that was it.
