You deposit the money into your checking account. A debit card is just a tool to spend the money that is in your checking account. Many people confuse debit card with credit cards. The difference is that a credit card is a type of loan, in which the bank is loaning you money to buy things with when you swipe the card and you have to pay it back over time. When you swipe your debit card, the purchase is paid for with money in your checking account immediately. Wells Fargo also sells Visa prepaid debit cards, which is a card you can buy with a preset amount, ie $300. When you spend all $300 on the card, you can't use it anymore and have to throw it away. They are not reloadable.
A prepaid debit card is separate from the traditional debit cards provided by banks and also very different from a credit card. You can get a prepaid debit card from several outlets (Netspend.com is a good one I've used) and all the money on the card is put onto it by the card holder before they are able to spend anything. They work very much like debit cards issued by banks, except there are no interest fees, and no overdraft charges. You can use a prepaid debit card for shopping online, renting a car, paying bills, and even renting a hotel. Additioanlly, you can transfer money from standard bank accounts to the card, get money directly deposited to the card, and you can use it through PayPal as well. Check out the link below for more uses of the card, and how to sign up for one.)

A pre-paid cash card is similar to a debit card. The difference is - a debit card is linked to a bank account, whereas a prepaid cash card is not. In order to use a prepaid card, you have to 'load' it with money. You hand the card and your cash to a retailer - and they process the payment so it's transferred electronically onto the card. You can only use the card so long as you have sufficient credit. When you run low - simply 'top-up' the card again.
Debit cards do NOT carry promo codes ! Promo codes are issued by companies - for the consumer to input onto their website - in order to get discount, or 'free' items.

The greet dot card is a prepaid debit card that you can use anywhere that credit/debit cards are excepted. You would either have money deposited directly onto the card or go to a retailer and have money loaded onto the card that way. Before getting a green dot card go to their web site www.greendot.com and check out their fee schedule.
With a debit card, some banks will pass the fees onto you. This is why it's always important that you use your debit as credit. When you use your card as credit, you have the fees passed onto the merchant, rather than you.

On paypal, you need to have money onto the account. It is taking it out of your account which is linked to a debit card. I don't think you can. However, you can earn diamonds in free offers. 10 diamonds = a pass. There are also things like Zeevex and Paysafecard where you can buy the card and use it without having to own a credit/debit card.

In most cases yes. As long as you have the appropriate amount of money 'loaded' onto the debit card, and as long as the online vendor accepts the card company the debit card is using (i.e. MasterCard, American Express), you can make online purchases using the code listed on the front of the debit card.
