Honestly, it really shouldn't matter if you're having a good or bad day, in my opinion. What I believe you want to project is always a positive attitude and nothing blends in better with a positive "non-used up" word to define a positive response that in return will result in a positive and genuine interest on behalf of the person asking. For example, people ask me that and I say " phenomenal...." or even something like " i feel how you look today, Superb!." I can't tell you guys how many times I've gotten positive feedback and genuine responses from that. On top of that, if you're feeling down, the way to make yourself feel better is by making someone else feel good. Just my opinion......

AnswerUsually, it's intended as either a conversation starter or maybe just an acknowledgement that you're there. How about a simple "good, you?"

It's intended to give someone an opportunity to say something in reply or maybe just hang out or maybe it means nothing.

AnswerThe general answer to How are you doing is I'm doing fine. How are you? People mainly just ask this to be nice. They might not really know you or actually care how you are doing so if you want to really throw someone for a loop try this... If your having a crappy day just tell the truth. Just tell them you're having a bad day because this and that happened and blah blah blah. Then when they see you again they won't ask you. That is if you would like to stop being asked this question. Otherwise just go with the first response which again is: I'm fine. How are you? AnswerWell.. that depends on how you are doing. Most people like to say "Fine, and you?" ... But if you don't really want to be talking to that person, try saying "Fine, thank you for asking" and walk away... Answer

If you're feeling a bit under the weather but don't want to lie, you can say "Not bad" and follow by asking the other person how they are. I do agree with the above answer that most people ask "How are you?" to be polite or because they've been taught to do it. An in depth or unnecessarily honest answer can be more than they bargained for. So keep it simple, and make it vague when you're feeling bad and don't want to divulge your situation.

Say I'm fine and ask the person how they are doing. If it is a girl you like then after that you must get the conversation going so she doesn't get bored try and tell her something interesting that's happened to you, stretch the truth if you have to but you must keep her interested or she will not reply!

The question "How are you?" or "How are you doing?" are essentially meaningless phrases used to initiate a conversation.

The only appropriate responses are some variant on "I'm doing well, thank you. And you?"

The only occasions on which this general rule would not be followed is if the question were to be posed by a caregiver or health care professional. In that case, answer honestly.

Is correct to reply I am here when asked how are you?

No, "I am here" does not directly address how you are feeling. It would be more appropriate to reply with "I am doing well" or "I am fine" to answer the question about your well-being.
