Use milk of magnesia, you can find this in grocery stores or pharmacies (Food Lion, Rite Aid, etc.). Shake well and put some on your cold sore using your finger. You should fe…el your cold sore start to throb a little and the milk of magnesia will dry after a few minutes. Since it is white, you should put on before you go to bed and wipe it off with a wet rag in the morning. Your cold sore should go away within a couple of days. Works really fast!
Take Vitamin C as soon as the tingling starts, before the cold sore starts to show or hurt. This will shorten the period of time you have the cold sore. Avoid stress, avoid fo…ods that are high in acid (tomato-based sauces, ketchup, pickles, coffee, cola, and highly spiced foods).
There doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of cold sores fast. Once they appear, they just seem to have to run their course. Some things that might help lessen the spread and… unsightliness are Apple Cider Vinegar and warm water, taking Vitamin C and using products that contain Vitamin C, cold sore patches and Carmex. Chapstick helps relieve the pain, but it doesn't seem to help in other ways.
ice and tea bags
Antiviral medications such as valtrex, famvir, abreva, and acyclovir will help.
try gargling with saltwater but don't swallow it.
Yes, but it may take some time. Your local pharmacist or medication shop should stock some topical cream to combat the Herpes Simplex.
Cold sores will eventually go away, but there is no cure since they are caused by a virus. You can use OTC medicines to make them feel better; nothing (but time for your immun…e system to get rid of them) is available as a cure. There are various products that are available at pharmacies to treat the symptoms of cold sores and make them less painful. Ask the pharmacist to assist you in selecting the products that would be best for your particular symptoms.

Basically, Cold Sore medicine just gets rid of the cold sore. Some products don't prevent them from coming back, so you may end up with one, but more keep coming and coming. The most important thing is when you have a cold soar to not overdo it with the chap stick. Try to use water and make sure your lips are always moist. in the morning, once during the day, and before you go to bed, apply a layer of chapstick over your lips. Try to keep your lips always most. By this time, your lips will have what they need to stay healthy.
If you leave the sores alone they will heal
Just take a small cup, and fill it up with about 1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons (or regular dinner spoons), of salt. Then, fill the cup with warm water (not too hot, unless you like th…at), to about 3/4 of the cup. Take in some water, (should take about 3 times until it's empty), and gurgle it, (don't swallow it) for 30 seconds each time. Then spit it out. Do it a few times a day, or whenever the cold sore really hurts, or bugs you. (Tell a doctor if this doesn't help.)
I know how bad a cold sore could be but the best way is cleaning it every hour with soup and water on a paper towel and the puss will come out. Also you can use abreva or othe…r. Good luck will your cold sore hope this helps. it has to run its course but here are a few things to do to avoid the intensity of the cold sore and its symptoms. Don't expose yourself to the sun for long periods of time, get lots of rest, don't pick at it, this will only make it spread. If you do touch it, WASH your hands immediately! Stay away from foods like chocolate and peanut butter. Use a warm tea bag and place it on the cold sore for about 30 minutes. Ice also helps relieve the inflammation. Keep it covered with an ointment whether its medicinal or something like Carmex (OTC). Sleep or rest is very important because your immune system is compromised during this time. You can also buy Abreva (OTC) which works very well on the symptoms or have your doctor prescribe Acyclovir which is an ointment for viral infections. The sooner you start to treat the symptoms, the sooner it will go away (back into it's dormant state). REMEMBER, WASH your hands even after applying these ointments. Stress, weather, long exposure to extreme temperatures either hot or cold, an unhealthy diet are predisposing factors for the virus to come out of its dormant stage.
I get them all the time and end up staying home and avoiding people at all costs. Depending on the stage its in, such as the tingling or blister stage i would hold ice on it w…raped up in a wash cloth. This might even stop the cold sore from breaking out. Worked well for me in the past. the other day i got a really bad cold sore and called up my dentist and he right away prescribed for me Zoviarx ointment. This speeds up the healing process and takes the main away but i still took some pain meds. anyway the best thing to do is keep it moist. Vaseline!!! is the best along with zoviarx! dont pick at it even when it scabs then it will take longer to heal. trust me i know! tea bags in the freezer also work.
No, they are caused by a virus (Herpes simplex) and only respond to antiviral drugs.
No. Salt usually stings on an open wound. It may end up aggravating a cold sore. Just get some over the counter cream like Abreva.
