In order to rot proof canvas you will have to purchase a spray for this purpose. You can buy this at hardware stores, or camping stores. Spread the canvas out and spray an even coat on the entire piece. Be sure to get into corners as well.
Keep in mind the position of the canvas when in use. When saturated by rainfall, the water in the fabric will travel downward. The water will collect at the lower edges which will take the longest to air dry. Water can also collect at points on the fabric where something is attached (reinforced areas). These areas will be the first to mildew. Be sure to saturate these spots thoroughly.
