Jul
Edit:
We have no literal translation for Christmas, this comes from Christ's mass. We celebrate Christmas on the 24th as Julafton, Yule in English which comes from a pagan winter-festival. Jul is analogous to Christmas in terms of celebration though.
Jul is the name for the Swedish Christmas holiday and is celebrated throughout the month of December until January 13. Unlike America, in Sweden, it is customary to exchange gifts on December 24.
Jul is Christmas in Swedish. To say "Merry Christmas" you would say "God Jul". The j in swedish is always pronounced like an english y.
Phonetically, it sounds just like our "you'll".
We say 'God Jul' , but it's quite common that you also say 'gott nytt år'. ( happy new year) In one sentence that becomes 'God jul och gott nytt år'. :)
