Buddhists practice calmly abiding the mind on a single internal object, for example, the emptiness of the "I" (the absence of a self). Rather than not thinking at all, they attempt to keep their mind focused on a single object such as this rather than being caught up in the flow of consciousness we are all familiar with.
AND:
Sit.
Become still.
Answer question - what is mind for?
Mind is for survival. Mind is always sitting in the intersection of awareness looking for threats.
Early in a sit, notice how easy it is to be aware of virtually everything, and this awareness doesn't feel like thinking, because there aren't many words. You can feel your body breathing. You can sometimes feel your heart beating. You can sometimes feel the gentle movemet of the air around you, even in a very still room. You can hear others breathing. You can hear the dog outside, or the crow or robin.
Eventually, the mind will realize that there are no real threats to be concerned about. so it will look for little threats. Like, sitting perfectly. The mind begins to be concerned about the little threat of losing merit, and falls into a familiar pattern of worring about that, and thinking about that. If you are willing to endure pain to sit perfectly, for example, and this willingness is based on the fear of lost merit should you move to a more comfortable position, your mind will come to be full of that battle with egocentric self, because you are not really willing to let the self die, not even of a little loss of face. You want glory. And this is your suffering.
Your mind is your primary weapon of survival. To slow its thoughts, you have to be willing to suffer virtually anything. Otherwise, the one thing you don't want to suffer will crawl into the room, wrap itself around you, and bite everything off except your head. Finding the beast that will bite your head off and leave the rest -- that is an impossible challenge. Better to just find your own way, and eventually find love for the chatter of your own alarm system.
The problem, you see, is the ease of modern life. Instead of appreciating the wisdom of a mind that is one of the most superbly crafted early detection systems in the universe, you become annoyed with it because the biggest threat in your neighborhood is you, and you keep on setting off your own alarms with your foolish and self indulgent thoughts.
Like me.
Like everyone.
Think about that.
Think about that and then think about finding compassion for others. What is that? It is the mind reprogrammed to be alarmed about the conditions others face in their lives. So down this path, instead of sitting there wondering if you zipped up your fly and being scared crapless that you didn't, you can worry about real threats, none of which are threats to you personally, but are threats to the community of sentient beings. You can comfort others. And you can then worry about and ask, "how do you think or start yourself thinking about caring about other people so much that I no longer am preoccupied with myself."
And me too.
And everyone else.
Because we all have virtually the same problem. Our minds have the capacity to slay beasts, and there are none around.
Or we can take the easy way out and ask, "how can I stop myself from thinking?" And someone will surely be there to convince you it's possible, and that you aren't really a human being at all, but some kind of machine that can turn itself on and off at its own convenience.
well first of all tell your parents about it and if they help problem solved if they dont heres how:calm down and lie down and dont think about it!
Think about good things. You can't make yourself stop thinking about one thing unless you replace it with something good and helpful.
When you have to stop thinking of something in particular, the best thing to do is distraction techniques. This will help your mind focus on something else.
Doctors suggest that you shoot yourself in the head!
I,ll go with the doctor...
Read a book. excersise, go to a movie or out to dinner with a friend or family member. Get involved in playing a sport you enjoy or a new hobby. Pray about it.
Just get distracted...
