It's easy. Just write down a list and time of feeding, playing/exercise, potty breaks, and grooming. Groom twice a week, if your pet is very hairy, then every day, and play with your pet twice a day! Depending on the animals size, feed twice or three times a day. Ask the vet how much to feed it. Good Luck!

It really depends on what kind of pet you are talking about. If you have any specific pet care questions you can post on my wiki wall.

Okay so my friend said I am allowed to "baby-sit" her puppy when she goes on vacation. I want to make sure I know how to take care of the puppy well.

First, get all of the cat's shots, and get it fixed. Make sure it is very healthy and not acting weird. Give it food, water, and lots and lots of love, and in return, you will get love back. If the cat is acting weird or is hurt, take it to the vet to get checked out. Hope this helped! :)

Before you even buy the animal, make sure it is wormed, has a microchip and it has had its needles. You also need to know if its parents are well and who the breeder is. If it is a dog, keep it in the laundry for the first few nights if it is a puppy - it will tend to do urine! You need to buy puppy food for its teeth and its health. Take the dog to training to teach it the basics - sit, lie down, come, etc. Buy a collar for it as it will need to have an address and maybe its name. As a puppy they do get out sometimes.

CATS buy a scratching post and a litter box A.S.A.P as they also do alot of urine as a kitten. If you cant buy the scrathing post for a while you may want to get furniture protection. You can ask for that at your pet store.

GUINEA PIGS, HAMSTERS, RABITS, MICE and RATS also are pretty much the same but in a cage. Get a feeding device, food and you will NEED to change the paper or whatever you use in the cage twice a day.

HORSES are very different as you will definately need to take lessons before you even buy one of these beautiful animals. You also need to go to someone that knows a bit about horses just to ask a bit of advice on what to feed your horse. Buying/building a shelter is best and DO NOT change the feed of your horse to dramaticly as it will get sick. Get a farrier out to your house or where you are keepingyour horse to cut down their hooves.

If you have just acquired a cat, the best thing to do is do place him or her in a quiet room, away from noisy or busy parts of the household so she/he can recover from the move and begin to get used to a new place.

It is probably best to keep the cat in that one room for a week or so, until she is completely settled in and used to your company. Make sure you provide a bed for her to sleep in, a litter tray, toys, and food and water bowls. You may even want to give her a place to hide, such as a cat carrier lined with soft towels or blankets. Being in a new place is scary!

Don't worry if she has an upset tummy for the first few days - stress will cause a cat to have loose stools. This should clear up quickly.

After a while, let her explore the house and other members of the household gradually. Doing this too quick will scare her.

Depending on her age and personal requirements (all cats are different, just like people), she may need a lot of care, or very little. Here I shall summarise the basics:

Things you'll need:

Food and Water Bowls, blankets/bed (although you may find your cat choosing where she wants to sleep =P), litter tray and litter, toys, cat carrier (for vet trips or a hiding place). Last but not least, you will need money (you must be prepared to spend money on your cat, such as buying them food and paying for vet bills), patience, care and love!

Food: Most cats are quite happy eating twice a day, although if the cat is to be left alone for most of the day, putting down a little dry food for that cat to nibble on might be accepted. This is completely optional, however.

Cats are carnivores so they derive all the nutrients from meat, so it makes sense to find a food with a high (50% or over) meat content. This should be the FIRST ingredient (listed as Chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Tuna, etc.). Foods that are free of grains, corns, and wheat gluten are highly recommended as these are cheap "filler" that bulk up foods - but have no nutritional value for your kitten. Wet food with these specifications are much easier to find than in dry food.

Also, if you want to give your cat milk, use specially formulated "Kitten/Cat Milk". DO NOT give them cow's milk as most cats are lactose intolerant and will get sick.

Litter: Put the litter tray in a quiet area of the house. Cats will not go to the litter tray if stressed or feel they are constantly interrupted. They, like humans, like their privacy, too! If your kitten is very very young, you might want to avoid clumping clay litter as the clay is very harsh on their paws, so they won't want to use the tray at all. Wood pellets are much softer.

Remove any solid waste using a scooper each day, and completely clean the tray with warm water and soap every week, and place fresh litter in once the tray is dry.

Don't forget to show your cat where the tray is the first few times. Most cats don't need "training"; once they know where the tray is, they will happily go in it. Be sure to praise her when she uses the tray!

Toys: I have found the best toys are home-made ones! A scrunched up ball of paper on string works just as well as a bought toy. Kittens LOVE the sound and texture of scrunched up paper! Cardboard boxes with holes cut in them work very well also. Straws are fantastic for them to chew, especially when teething. If you DO buy toys, don't be surprised if they are ripped to ribbons within a few weeks. Kittens and cats play rough! Play with your cat as often as possible. This not only gives the cat physical and mental exercise, this helps you and your cat bond.

Another thing on toys: Don't let your cat get into the habit of attacking your hands. This will become very painful when cats are no longer little kittens. Adult cats are bigger, stronger, and has big sharp claws and teeth! If your cat becomes too rough, or misbehaves (climbing up the curtain, for instance), a loud "NO!", and swift removal will often suffice. Many cats will let you know when they have had enough playtime, also. Ignoring when the cat plays too rough or begs for food is effective - the cat will learn quickly that doing certain things won't get any attention. "Punishing" a cat will just teach the cat to be fearful, or misbehave behind your back. Positive reinforcement is key!

The cat carrier, while a helpful thing to place your cat in to go to the vets, is also a great "time out" area! You can throw treats into the carrier or feed the cat in the carrier for a while. Make sure to praise her when she goes into the carrier of her own accord.

Scratching Posts: Are a must. A cat, like using the litter tray, will normally choose the scratching post to stretch and dig in its claws. Make sure the post is tall enough for the cat to stretch to her full height at the very least. You might need to buy several and place one in rooms she uses the most, or ones you have furniture in to prevent any possible furniture scratching

To take care of your pet you need to give it the needs the animal has to have: Water, shelter, food, love and grooming. I work with animals and I know animals like to have a lot of attention and love. So basically... Treat it well, take care of it well. :)
