Many species are differently coloured, the male being brighter and the female more drab, brown etc.
Species which don't have this (many as well) can be told apart by looking at their genitals - males do have some kind of penis, shaped differently for every species, but it takes some effort to make it visible as it resides inside the last segment of the body until mating time itself. You'd need special equipment and a microscope, and the butterfly would need to be dead (but not squished, obviously).

What does your gut tell you?
Original answer restored:No. Being attracted to members of the same sex means that you are gay.
It's not possible to determine the sex of a caterpillar. However, adult butterflies may be sexually dimorphic, meaning that the sexes can be told apart. Males generally have brighter colors or different patterns than females.
When they are around you kind of get butterflies or when you see them you cant help but smile.
