How do you tell your best friend your friendship isn't working?

First off, what's the problem? Tell them what it is. Maybe it's that they're too bossy, that they always have to be the center of attention, whatever it is just tell them. Then ask them if they have ever realized this. Continue if they said yes, then continue. If they said no, go to the next paragraph. Then ask them have they ever tried to stop doing it? If they say no, ask them why. There really is no correct answer to that question, so just tell them that obviously they haven't realized it or else they would have stopped it.
Then point out a few situations about when they did the annoying thing. They'll make up excuses, but tell them that they're responsible for their actions. Tell them that you find it annoying, and that you're sick of it. Say you're sorry, but that they can call when everybody in town doesn't think they do that annoying thing anymore.

just try and stay as close to them as possible, and just try to accept that they have someone they're close to, too. you may be there one day for them when the other friend isnt. It's important though that you respect that they like the other person as well and you should try and not intrude on their friendship.

whoa, not much of a friend! If you value the friendship highly and don't wish to do anything drastic or end the friendship, then just say, "ok, not cool! please dont do that again!!" But if your "friend" was snooping around your computer and STOLE your data...maybe the friendship isnt as great as you think it is. I dont know, but maybe you should end the friendship because this person obviously doesnt respect you.
