Considering updating your iPhone forces you to update to the latest software available for the device, updating an iPhone 3GS now will update it to iOS 6.
Yes. Depend you have an iPod touch 3rd gen +, iPhone 3GS +, or iPad, you can get iMessage and IOS 5.
Yes they do but remember to upgrade to the latest iOS version 6
You Cannot Download Facetime to the iPhone 3GS because of its lack of a front camera, apple will not give you that option. However, if you plan to upgrade to the 4s if your 2-Year Contract is almost done, then it comes shipped with iOS 5 and Facetime free. I hope this helps.
You can only recover lost apps from either iTunes if you have saved them, or if you have an iPhone that is capable of updating to iOS 5*, you can search for the app in the app store and you should be able to download it again for free as it should say 'INSTALL' where the 'Buy' button usually is. *You can update your iPhone to iOS 5 in iTunes. iOS 5 can only be installed onto the following iPhones; iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S.
yes of course i ve done it.....its nice but it may stucs some times if you have many programs to task manager........

IF IT DOESN'T NOT GO ONTO APPLE.COM AND SEARCH FOR IOS 5
Yes you can.
The iPhone 5 will run iOS 6 or iOS 7.
You will need to use the iStore on a friends computer or pop in to an Apple store or IPhone reseller
