Choose what you would like to persuade the reader. Do you want to say that the church worships an imaginary God, or that God is real? Do you want to say that the church you last attended was boring or fun? Is it a waste of time, or a real spiritual adventure? Do you believe the Church is dying, or that it is vibrant and an important part of your life?

Without the theme from which you wish to persuade your readers, a persuasive essay is not possible. You could take a position close to your own personal beliefs, then emphasise that position to the point that it is somewhat more than what you really believe, but do not go out on a limb because then the essay will no longer be persuasive. Try to include examples or provide citations from The Bible or some other source, if appropriate. This can make the essay livelier and more understandable. So, if you found church boring, explain how, perhaps, the sermon went on for far too long, was not interesting, and everyone looked as if they wanted to sleep. If you found it stimulating, say why, and give an example.
