there is an interstate reporting system called the 'driver license compact' (see Wiki article). It shares a drivers information, including personal information, addresses, SS numbers, etc. and any traffic violations. Many state DMVs will refuse to renew a drivers license if the person has even a minor outstanding violation (unpaid ticket) in another state. Since insurance companies can access DMV records, they can and will raise rates or add points or cancel policies based on what happens outside your state of residence. The last word I had was that there are five states not participating in the system, but this may change with the new stricter rules for drivers licensing and IDs being imposed by the feds.
If I am from Florida but got a speeding ticket in CA, can I go to Traffic School to remove the points from my insurance? I plan on paying the ticket.
depends on how many speeding tickets you have. your rates may go up and yes, you can lose your insurance. if that happens it is hard to get insured and you will have topay higher premiums until the ticket goes off your record.
I cannot see that a speeding ticket has a value in any area. It could cause an increase in your insurance rates and there may be a fine involved.
yes the points will be assessed. you have to mail the money to the different state/county/whatever or you might be able to do it online by credit card. i think it affects your insurance same as if you were speeding in your state.
connecticut
Yes, a Florida speeding ticket will be reported to Texas and show on your driving record for points and insurance increase. You may want to contact a Florida Traffic Clinic and let them see if they can get the Florida ticket dismissed. It is worth the cost.
Speeding
it will take about 2 and a half to three hours to get from connecticut to florida by plane.
== == If you hold a Florida driver's license, a conviction in another state will NOT go on your Florida record. It WILL go on your INSURANCE record. Actually - referring to GA laws - they will report the offense back to your home state. That means it will go on your Fl driving record just as if you received the ticket in Florida. On top of that - all points will be assessed based on the Fl point system and you CANNOT take a class to wipe off the points when you receive an out of state ticket. It sucks big time. I suggest not speeding next time...i learned the hard way.
