An illegal alien can become legal by filing documents with the INS. If the person can prove they have been here 17 years and never been in trouble, it could help them receive papers faster.

What paperwork would you need to marry your boyfriend who is an illegal alien and you are a US citizen and the only document he has is his birth certificate from Mexico?

He would need to apply and be granted legal permanent status before the couple could be legally married. I don't think you could marry him if he is illegal. Good Luck. You CAN marry an illegal alien. For whatever reason, it's legal to marry an illegal alien. You just need his birth certificate and proof of what state he lived in for the last 30 days prior to marriage.

Does an illegal alien become a legal citizen by joining the navy?

AnswerHow can my boyfriend become a legal citizen? If anyone can give advise it is greatly appreciated. An alien resident of the United States does not automatically become a citizen of the US by joining the Armed Forces.Your boyfriend can become a legal citizen after I believe 7 years of having lived in the uS. He will need to apply with the Immigration and Naturalization Office. He will received a test booklet and be called to complete testing. Swearing in ceremonies are usually held a few months later, when several new citizens are sworn in at the same time.

Never, you are in trouble as soon as they find you've lived in the US illegally.

Can an illegal immigrant that has lived in the US for 18 years become a citizen?

Without any sort of "amnesty" or other government forgiveness of the illegal status, no. Possibly through military service, but otherwise, I can't think of a way without becoming "legal" somehow first.

If an American marries an illegal alien who is in the US illegally will the illegal alien become legal?

"if friend who lived in Romania who I love come here to visit and we get marriage because I truly love her what is the process for me and her to get her to stay what I need to do?"After you get married you need to file proper immigration papers available on the INS site. He/She will need to go back to their home country once their visa is up and await proceedings. Once the petition is filed and later sent to that persons local US embassy, they will contact them for the interview. Based on a real bona fide marriage it is a surety they will gain a permanent residency document and be able to come live with you in the US. Three years later they may apply for citizenship so long as both parties still have an active marital relationship.Be aware, however, that marrying a citizen does not automatically make an illegal alien eligible for citizenship. Specifically, a foreigner who illegally entered the United States and later married a citizen may only become eligible for legal status after leaving the U.S. for 5 or 10 years before returning.
