"Banishment? Be kind, say death!" Romeo kind of goes off the rails when he realizes that he cannot be in the same town as Juliet. Friar Lawrence has to shake him up and make him see reason--that things could be much worse.
Romeo is grief-stricken since he doesn't want to have to leave Juliet because they have love for each other.
He scolds Romeo and tells him he should consider himself lucky that he was not sentenced to death.

The Prince banished Romeo because he has killed Juliet's cousin and they don't want to sentence him to death. So they sent him to exile, out of Verona away from his family and friends.

Friar Laurence
Friar Laurence helps Romeo escape and arranges for him to spend the night with Juliet before leaving for Mantua. Lord Capulet then decides that Juliet will marry Paris, which leads to her pretending to be dead. Ultimately, fate and miscommunication between Romeo, Juliet, and the Friar result in Romeo being banished by Prince Escalus for killing Tybalt.

Escalus is related to Prince Escalus and Count Paris in Romeo and Juliet. Prince Escalus is the ruler of Verona, while Count Paris is a nobleman seeking to marry Juliet.
Mantua: City in Italy where Romeo flees after saying his last goodbye to Juliet. He hides here, and waits to hear from the friar. It is here that he learns that Juliet is supposedly dead. Then, on his way to go and see her, he buys poison from an apothecary on the street.
Prince Escalus banned fighting in Verona and enforced the punishment of death. Mercutio and Tybalt were fighting and Romeo came in between them to try and stop them. Tybalt reached under Romeo and stabbed Mercutio, killing him. Mercutio was a good friend of Romeos, so Romeo fought against Tybalt and killed him. Prince Escalus found out but did not sentence Romeo to death because he knew Romeo had good intentions and Mercutio was related to the Prince; instead he banished Romeo to Mantua where he would live forever.
Romeo will stay in Mantua while he is banished from Verona. He flees Verona after being exiled by Prince Escalus for killing Tybalt. The Friar arranges for Romeo to stay in Mantua until things calm down.
Mercutio is clearly related to Prince Escalus and Paris as well, so I guess his last name would be Escalus or whatever Prince Escalus's last name is.
