After you eat a contaminated food, there is an hours-to-days delay before you notice symptoms. The contaminating organism passes through the stomach

into the intestine, attaches to the intestinal walls, and begins to multiply. Some organisms stay in the intestine, some produce a toxin that is absorbed into the bloodstream, and others directly invade body tissues. Your symptoms depend greatly on the type of organism that has infected you.

Food poisoning is not a specific infection. The food may have different content levels of bacteria and therefore be more dangerous. But the body fights it basically fights it the same way it would any other bacteria.

Salmonella infection causes 'Typhoid fever'. Infection occurs via 'Fe-co-oral route'. So feces of patient of typhoid from second weeks on wards and chronic carriers pass them in feces. They are transmitted to human food or water via house flies, pass in shallow wells and by food handlers. (Read the story of 'Typhoid Merry' from America.) So normally people from developing countries face poorhygienic conditions and get infected by salmonella infection. Most of themdevelops, what is called as 'sub-clinical disease'. That means they do not fall ill or only get mild illness, which get unnoticed. But such people get 'antibodies against 'Typhoid fever' in future. So by means of Immunity, both cell mediated and humeral, body defends itself from Typhoid fever. If you take Typhoid vaccine, you can 'create' resistance against Typhoid fever, bychallengingImmunity to form antibody against Typhoid fever.
