The fertilized egg is in the eggshell. It is an extremely large egg. It fills the egg shell. It is larger than the chick will be when it hatches! It divides like any other cell and becomes smaller.

By split, I'm assuming you mean a mitotic division. After an egg is fertilized, it goes through rapid mitosis and the baby grows. There is no name for the two cells after the first division, but after the fourth division, there are 16 cells. This is called a morula. As it grows, it will become a blastocyst, then embryo, then a fetus.
