The symbolism lies behind each of the two doors:

The Lady:

  • This symbolizes envy or jealousy, because the princess does not want her lover to marry the lady (because she is her enemy)
  • If chosen, the princess would not forgive herself for doing so, but it is better than to be mauled by a tiger

The Tiger:

  • This symbolizes desperation, only if the princess' jealousy of the lady behind the other door gets to her
  • Again, the princess would never forgive herself if her lover is killed if she reconsiders at the last minute

In the lady or the tiger an example of personification is where it says in the story " then the gay brass bells rang forth their merry peals, the people shouted glad hurrahs, and the innocent man, preceded by children strewing flowers on his path, led his bride to his home. This is a personification of the bell because it says " the gay bell" but bells can't feel happiness.

Is the courtier fed to the lady or the tiger in The Lady or the Tiger... Please give a few pieces of evidence.?

In "The Lady or the Tiger," it is not explicitly stated whether the courtier is fed to the lady or the tiger. Evidence includes how the princess knows which door the lady is behind and her possessive nature towards the courtier, which could suggest she chose the tiger for jealousy. On the other hand, her love for the courtier could mean she directed him to the lady. Ultimately, the story leaves the ending ambiguous, allowing readers to interpret it as they wish.
