• IT WILL BE SORE FOR A WEEK OR TWO. TAKES A FULL 4-6 WEEKS TO HEAL COMPLETLY
• Even after 6 weeks in a cast and having another x-ray my metatarsal was not completely healed in my foot, but some healing had taken place. I was not allowed to weight bear for 3 of those weeks. It takes several months for complete healing.
I'm no doctor but i broke my second metatarsal on July 3rd. I didn't pull any ligaments or cartilage but it was broken all the way through the bone. I had a cast on for 6 weeks then got it off and had a walking boot for 3 weeks. Now i wear regular foot wear and i can stand on my broken foot without pain, but I am still unable to walk without a limp and go on rel-ave fulling putting all my weight on that foot. So far its been 3 months for me, but its different for everyone and nature will tell.
With no stresses or movement ( that's what casts are for ) any bone will heal in six to eight weeks. A metatarsal is stressed every time you step, so you should expect a little longer.
The metatarsal bones are a set of 5 long bones in the feet. They are the third set of bones counting from the tips of the toes.

The five long bones of the midfoot are referred to as the metatarsal :)
I have a 5th metatarsal break now. Mine is 1 mm separated. The doctor told me anything MORE than 1 mm does not make a union well and would probably need a screw inserted. Good luck to all who have this problem!
