Ducklings begin to develop their adult voices around 6 weeks of age. The stereotypical loud "Aflac" quack is the hallmark of a female (hen) duck's voice and the soft whispery voices belong to the male (drake). This holds true for all mallard derivative ducks which is essentially all domesticated ducks except the Muscovy.
Baby mallards can go swimming from their secound day, but if one of them is a bit smaller then the others leave it for up to four days. the longer you leave the longer it will take for them to hatch
I've just read on a Canadian website called liveducks that it takes around 50 days! Bit of a problem for me as a mother duck had her ducklings in a pond that is surrounded by classrooms in my school. We only have under two months before the summer holidays begin, so it looks like I will have to go into school during the summer holidays to continue feeding them!
they can fly when they are really close to 5 months old
Ducklings are born knowing how to swim. Once they're born, the mother will usually take them straight to water. It's instinct, they float, therefore they swim.
It depends. You can let them swim at 4-5 days, but can start at 2 days old. Just remember after they're done swimming, that you dry them off and put them back under the heat lamp.

Officially, a mallard is a dabbling duck, which is a duck that feeds or "dabbles" at the surface of the water, not diving. A simpler answer would be to call it a swimming bird.

If you are talking about a Mallard, you really can't until after about 9 months or so. We had two baby Mallard ducks hatch and grow up outside our kitchen window. We just moved them to the park near by after mom stopped showing up and they both look like females. As we have read, this is the case until they are 9 to 12 months old. We continue to visit them and they have about 200 new Mallard Duck friends now. They see us walking down to the bank and swim over, there is no mistake about which ducks they are.
A male duck is a drake, a female duck is a mallard and a baby duck is called a duckling.
