Without treatment, genital warts may go away on their own, or they may get worse. If warts are causing symptoms, you may consider seeing your health care provider for treatment. Treatment doesn't necessarily make them less contagious. In addition, treatment of warts doesn't increase long-term health risks; warts do not turn into cancer. Without treatment, warts may take months to disappear.

Treatment options include creams to use at home, which may take months to see an effect; acid or freezing treatments, which typically take at least two or three treatments a couple of weeks apart; or surgical removal.

See related link for reliable information from the CDC regarding genital warts and treatment options.

Warts typically do not fall off by itself. You have to go to a specialist to treat them. They have various methods to take out your warts.

Warts are caused by Human Papiloma Virus. Keep in mind if you are wart-free, it doesn't mean you are free from the virus itself. HPV will stay in your body for (usually) 1-2 years, sometimes it takes longer. Within 1-2 years your body will keep fighting the virus and one day your antibody will succeed in forcing the virus to be dormant. By then, you should be immune to future infection of the same HPV strain. Also, at that time, you should never get any more warts.

Although a wide variety of HPV types can cause genital warts, strain 6 and 11 account for about 90% of all genital wart cases. It means once you are immune to strain 6, doesn't mean you will be immune to strain 11.

When you still have active HPV infection, typically genital warts will keep coming back once every few weeks to few months. Genital wart recurrence usually never takes longer than 5 months. Once you are free from warts for 6 months, you may consider yourself to be no longer contagious.

As for your question, i would say again that a wart doesn't typically fall off by itself. It might fall off naturally when your antibody has cleared up the infection within the 1-2 years time frame but I would suggest you to get them treated every time they recur instead of having to see your genital area with warts every single day for years.

The studies are indecisive but even after removal recurrance rates are 50-73% depending on the infection and your bodies immune system

Genital warts often go away on their own, but not in a couple of days. If you have bumps that went away within days, they were not genital warts.
