High school will do, but do not take that to the bank. A degree in a branch of the arts is almost mandatory to get you started. And there are schools with four-year degrees in just that specialty. There are associates (two-year) degrees, and there are certificates in the discipline. The competition is tough; lots of people are trying to break in. This doesn't mean you can't get a start, but you'll need all the advantages you can put on your resume. The Batchelor of Arts in Interior Design will be a good thing to top the list of qualifications. At least your resume won't get dumped aside for lack of it and the personnel officer will keep reading. Make sense? Good luck.
It depends on the educational level. An associates degree (two year program of study) can take between 60 and 64 credits, and a bachelors degree (four year program of study) between 124 and 128 credits.
Not university, only a community college of two years study is the norm.
