That is an extremely subjective question that you have there. It can be anywhere from an hour and a half to well over nine hours. This is completely dependent on whether it is small or large, black and gray or color, the amount of detail in the face, clothes, and hair, etc. You'll be looking at nowhere under $175.00 for it to be in black and gray I would think, and that would be for a somewhat small face. The cost would go from there in accordance to size and color. More important than the monetary aspect, is to do some good research for artists in your area that do good portraits. So many tattoo artists like to say that they can do "portraits" when in fact they can't and they usually end up using too many hard lines and they always shade them inconsistently and flatly while at the same time usually never giving the face a background to contrast it from the skin.

It all depends on the size and the detail of the tattoo... Most places charge by the hour, so try finding out how long the tattoo would take.
