If there is fertile cervical mucus present then sperm can live up to a week within the female body, that is within the vagina. Otherwise sperm will normally die within a few hours due to the acidic pH within the vagina.

Two, sperm that has an X chromosome and sperm that has a Y chromosome, all things being normal all sperm have the same chromosome count.

It is possible to accurately predict all male offspring for a particular mating pair why or why not?

Chromosomally, no. However, the survivability of Y-chromosome versus X-chromosome sperm under differing environmental conditions must also be considered. Y-chromosome sperm seem better adapted to alkaline environments, whereas X-chromosome sperm better survive acidity. Also, the sperm could be sorted before in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Is it the guy's sperm that makes the gender of a baby?

Yes. Sperm carry either an X or a Y chromosome. The eggs from a female's ovaries is always X. If the sperm has an X chromosome, the baby will be female. If the sperm has a Y chromosome, the baby will be male.

What determines if a pregnant women has a male or female?

The sperm can have either X or Y sex chromosome. If the sperm with X chromosome fertilize the ovum, you get female baby. If the sperm with Y chromosome fertilize the ovum, you get male baby. Ovum always has got X chromosome in it.

Why is a human cell containing 22 autosomes and a y chromosome a sperm?

Human somatic (body) cells contain two sets of 23 chromosomes. Human gametes (sperm and egg cells) contain one set of 23 chromomes -- 22 autosomes and 1 sex chromosome. Only a sperm cell can carry a y chromosome. A sperm cell can also carry an x chromosome. The ovum can carry only an x chromosome, never a y chromosome. So a cell containing 22 autosomes and a y chromosome must be a sperm cell.

What do you call it when the sperm provides a Y chromosome and the egg provides an X chromosome?

Which sex cell controls the sex of a baby?

I will explain, but I don't know why you put this in cat behavior. The X chromosome and Y chromosome control gender. If an embryo's two chromosomes are XX, it will be a girl. If the chromosomes are XY, it will be male. A pair of chromosomes have to have at least one X chromosome in it, but can also have a Y chromosome.
