The ocean is pretty old, but not older than my Gran. My dad always says she is the oldest thing in the world.

Actually, the oceans were formed when large basins were filled with water, after huge rain storms occured in the sky.

it is approximately 135-150 million years old. It's formation began during the breakup of pangaea, a landmass which consisted of all the modern continents. We can tell today for a number of reasons, one of which is because it is contantly widening while the Pacific is shrinking.

The Earth is about 4.5 billion years old, and the oceans have existed for around 4 billion years. Oceans did not immediately form because the Earth's surface temperature had to cool down enough for water to exist as a liquid.
