At least 12 hours before getting your blood taken.
It is ok to have small sips of water
It rather depends on why blood is being drawn?
Twelve hours, according to my cardiologist.
10 years, no big deal at all
long term:low blood cholosterol short term:consitpation, low blood cholesterol
12 hours
Fourteen (14) hours is best for typical blood work.Consider not eating after supper, then skipping breakfast. Often that approaches 14 hours.Keep drinking water during this period as it keeps the blood volume high and makes the vein easier to access.
As long as you don't put sugar or honey in it it'll be ok
that depends how fast you can fast when fasting for a fasting blood test for metabolic functions.
The average amount of dietary cholesterol is not linked to levels of cholesterol in the blood. Blood cholesterol is more closely related to the amount of saturated fat in the diet - saturated fat raises blood cholesterol. The polyunsaturated fats, like those found naturally in Cod Liver Oil, have typically not been shown to raise blood cholesterol. However these long chain omega 3 polyunsaturates (EPA & DHA), which are found in these oils, do not usually reduce total cholesterol levels, specifically LDL (bad) cholesterol. On the other hand scientific research has shown that long chain omega 3 polyunsaturates (EPA & DHA) can help increase HDL "good" cholesterol levels in moderate amounts.
I am faced with a similar situation. I need to fast 14 hours before my blood work, and I would like some iced tea. I have only been fasting for 4 hours, so I still have 10 hours to go. I called my brother-in-law, who is a doctor in Minnesota, and he said it was fine to have the tea tonight (as long as nothing is added to it). However, I cannot drink the tea tomorrow morning before the visit. Only water.
how long can u have a blood clot before u know u have it
You cannot eat or drink anything for 8 to 10 hours before having a folate blood test. This test is done to check for anemia, malnutrition, and to ensure birth defects do not happen to a fetus.
