AM means amplitude Modulation. there are different frequencies. Public utilities use AM mode in the Megacycle range- such as Departure Control- leave that Sominex alone. sorry. AM has its drawbacks, but covers a lot of ground in commercial and some Ham stations. FM has better sound quality and fidelity- often is broadcast in stereo- for music lovers- but has a limited range- max maybe about 55-l00 miles as the crow flies- better the higher the altitude of the receiving station. By the way Music is absolutely TABOO on all Ham and CB stations by FCC order.
