If your goal is to lose weight by burning body fat you should aim to consume around 500 fewer calories than the required by your body on a daily basis. How many is that? It will depend on many factors: sex, age, height, current weight, activity level among others. I would say it is between 2300 and 3500 calories per day. I would also suggest not going under 1500 calories per day since that would cause a huge alteration in your metabolism. Also it is not only about how many calories you eat, but how many you burn on a daily basis, so if you want to lose 10 pounds that quickly you should run 20-40 mins for a start. Eat a lot of raw food like vegetables and fruit, avoid pretty much everything that is fast food or advertised on TV for these are the foods with the highest calories content. One more thing : DON NOT STARVE!!! your body will recover form those periods of starvation and it will do it by absorbing again the fat from the food you consume.
